On Su Shi’s Comments about Han Yu

苏轼对韩愈有众多评说,其中以《韩文公庙碑》最为集中,形成了关于韩愈的诸多经典评价。他以韩愈为百世师、万世法,誉韩的文、道、忠、勇说关乎天地造化、时运盛衰;而“能者天”“不能者人”说,前者有天人感应思想的内驱,后者有对社会的尖锐批判。

Su Shi made plenty of comments about Han Yu,among which a lot were in Hanwengong Shrine Monument and became the classic ones.He admired Han Yu as the immortal teacher and treated his words as the law of everything.He praised Han Yu’s articles,thoughts,loyalty and courage were closely related to natural creation and ups and downs of fortune.And in Su Shi’s idea of“what you can do relies on opportune timing,and what you cannot do are always limited to people”,the first line showed the inner drive of the thought of interaction between heaven and mankind,and the second one reflected his sharp criticism on the society.
