Objective To explore the correlation among TCM syndrome classification, Meridian Musculatures Classification and the content of malondialdehyde(MDA), superoxide dismutase(SOD) and nitric oxide(NO) in KOA patient′ s knee joint effusion and serum.Method 135 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee with joint effusion were selected and divided into group of Yang-Ming Meridian Musculatures, Tai-Yang Meridian Musculatures, Shao-Yang Meridian Musculatures, and San-Yin Meridian Musculatures according to standard of TCM Musculatures classification. On this basis, those patients were divided into group of rheumatic heat arthralgia syndrome, wind cold damp arthralgia syndrome, liver-kidney deficiency syndrome, and blood stasis and arthralgia syndrome according to standard of TCM syndrome types. The contents of MDA, SOD and NO in patient′ s knee joint effusion and serum were measured before treatment. Results Comparison of the contents of MDA, SOD and NO in patient′ s knee joint effusion and serum in each Meridian Musculatures and syndrome group showed statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion The contents of MDA, SOD and NO in patient′ s knee joint effusion and serum of patients with knee osteoarthritis can be used as the reference basis for the macroscopic syndrome differentiation of TCM and Meridian Musculatures Classification.
