As a famous TCM(traditional Chinese medicine) physician of the Valuing-classics School in the Qing dynasty(1636-1912), Huang Yuanyu(1705-1758) devoted all his life to writings related to TCM and left rich achievements. Huang Yuanyu’s xuan jie(thorough-interpretation) of TCM classics and the xuan xiang(images suspended in the sky) theory of Zhou yi form an inseparable theoretical whole. On the one hand, there are suspending images behind the “thorough interpretation”. When the “thorough-interpretation” deepens, the original connotation of the images and numbers of the Changes originally conceived in TCM will be revealed. On the other hand, the logical presentation of the “suspending images” will be concretely corroborated by the images in the theory of viscera, meridians, diagnosis, and pharmacy in TCM. Further textual research can enable us to find that the philosophy of images and numbers, which threads through in Huang Yuanyu’s writings, was full of Daoist flavors. It is the influence of Daoist culture that gave his interpretation of ancient TCM classics a unique style.
