The contemporary American literary masterpiece The Echo Maker by Richard Powers represents the rootless and alienated state of people’s living condition in postmodern ages. Powers delves into the alienated phenomenon among different persons, homeland and past civilization by depicting the choices dilemma of the protagonists wandering in the crack of memory and forgetting, affection and indifference, deviating from and returning to the homeland, ultimately, they go back to their inner world and redefine themselves;they choose to embrace the homeland which carries the ancestral civilization, realizing the sense of belonging both in physical body and psychological mind, at the same time, it illustrates the survival principles and living wisdom people deserve to possess in post-modern era.
