The Influence of Zhou Dunyi’s Tai-chi Theory on Chinese Medicine

周敦颐有意融通儒道,在道家《太极图》的基础上,重绘《太极图》,并著《图说》,形成周子太极学说,为朱熹等后世理学家尊崇,成为理学奠基理论之一。周子《太极图》及《图说》所蕴含的深刻哲理也推动了中医学的发展,极大丰富和发展了中医学术理论。医界由此出现了以儒说医道,以图释医理的趋势。众多医家借用周子的太极理论解释医理,拓展医学理论,创新了学说。

Zhou Dunyi intended to integrate Confucianism and Taoism. On the basis of the Taoist Tai-Chi diagram, he repainted the Tai-Chi diagram and its diagram theory, forming Zhou Zi’s Tai-Chi Theory, which was revered by Zhu Xi and other later scholars of Neo-Confucianism, and became one of the foundational theories of Neo-Confucianism. The profound philosophies contained in Zhou Zi’s Tai-Chi Diagram and illustrations also promoted the development of Chinese medicine. which greatly enriched and developed the academic theory of Chinese medicine. After this, there was a trend in the medical field to use Confucianism to talk about medical Taoism and to explain medical theories with illustrations. Many physicians employed Zhou Zi’s Tai-Chi theory to explain medical principles, expand medical theories, and innovate theories.
