Gender politics is a recurring theme in Margaret Atwood’s novels. This paper analyzes food writing in Atwood’s latest novel,The Testaments, from the perspective of Foucault’s power theory and feminism.Food serves as the vehicle of power, embodying power relationship of“eating or being eaten”between men and women.Male rulers discipline women’s body and mind by regulating the time and space of offering meals as well as the amount and quality of food.In return, women revolt against oppression through deliberately eating taboo food, taking inedible substances, refusing to take food, and preserving food tradition obliterated by authorities.
