After 19 months of excavation, the Archaeological Program of Wuliangye has made important achievements, providing new materials for the study and interpretation of the culture of Chinese liquor. The excavation of Zoumajie site has revealed the crucial role of the route to Zhaotong of Yunnan in the industrial development as well as the consumption and circulation of Chinese liquor, which has broken new ground for extending academic knowledge of the history of transportation in ancient China. The archaeological investigation on the historical changes of the workshop has promoted our understanding of the ancient ecological environment in Yibin. Our understanding of the danger of flood in historical times are therefore deepened. The excavation of the drainage remains at the workshops provides new information of the planning and construction of drainage system in ancient Chinese cities, especially in those by the rivers, lakes or seas. Detailed information of the setup of ancient workshops which has a shop in the front are also obtained. Conditions are created for further understanding of the history of trade and commerce in ancient China, especially the trade pattern of circulation-consumption in liquor industry. In a sense, the success of the archaeological program may lead to a new start in the cause of liquor industry archaeology. We are eagerly looking forward to enhancing the understanding of the history and culture of Chinese liquor in the Warring States period and Qin-Han Dynasties through archaeological practice, so as to deepen the comprehensive understanding of the social and cultural features of this historical stage.
