On the New Features of Trauma Narratives in the British War Novels of the New Century

战争小说是对战争记忆的追溯和构建的一种文学体裁。英国早期的战争小说叙事受英雄史诗传统叙事的影响,多采取一种自上而下的视角,叙事聚焦在宏大的战争场面、重大的军事行动或英雄人物。而新世纪英国战争小说创伤书写呈现出新特点:主要关注回归士兵重新融入家庭和社会所面临的困境、战争书写中对人性的剖析以及通过描写战争期间的爱情故事来反衬战争的残酷并表达人们对幸福生活的憧憬。

War novel has always been a literary genre in the retrospect and construction of war memories.Influenced by the traditional narration of heroic epics,the narratives of early British war novels have adopted the top-down perspective,focusing on the grand war scenes,important military actions or heroes.However,new features have started to emerge in the trauma narratives of the war novels of this century:emphasis on the plight confronted by returned soldiers when reintegrating themselves into their families and the society,exploration of human nature in the war narratives and depiction of love stories during the war to contrast the cruelties of wars and express people’s longing for a happy life.
