文化多样性与家庭商业保险参与——基于CFPS的实证分析

Cultural Diversity and Household Commercial Insurance Participation——Evidence from China Family Panel Studies

本文基于中国家庭追踪调查(CFPS)2010~2016年数据,实证分析了文化多样性对家庭商业保险参与的影响。实证结果表明:文化多样性显著负向影响家庭商业保险参与的可能性与家庭商业保险支出占比。本文通过剔除政府部门工作背景家庭、替换关键解释变量以及构建平衡面板数据对结果进行稳健性检验,并通过工具变量法进行内生性检验,发现实证结果稳健。影响机制分析发现,由于地区文化差异带来交流障碍、社交壁垒等问题,在文化多样性水平较高的地区,家庭会减少社会交往,家庭通过社交获取保险信息、学习保险知识的机会减少,因此参与商业保险的可能性降低。进一步研究发现,在农村、普通话熟练度程度较低、对陌生人信任程度较低以及地区数字普惠金融指数较低、数字保险服务深度较低的家庭中,文化多样性对商业保险参与的抑制作用更显著。

The dialect is an important carrier of culture.Based on the 2010-2016 data of the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS),this paper empirically studies the effects of cultural diversity on the household commercial insurance participation.The results show that cultural diversity significantly has negative influence on the participation probability and expenditure ratio of household commercial insurance.This conclusion is found robust after excluding households with public-sector employees,replacing key explanatory variables and adopting balance panel data.This paper solves the endogenous problem with the instrumental variable method.The analysis of the mechanism shows that due to the social communication problem caused by cultural diversity,the family may decrease the social interaction and have fewer opportunities to obtain insurance information or learn insurance knowledge,which results in the fact that the possibility of participating in commercial insurance decreases.According to the heterogeneity analysis,cultural diversity had a more significant negative effect on commercial insurance participation in the rural households,those with low mandarin proficiency,those with low trust in stranger,and those in areas of low digital financial inclusion degree and low digital insurance service depth.
