Buddhism began to spread into the Dingzhou area during the Western Jin Dynasty. During the Sixteen Kingdoms and the Northern Wei Dynasty, Buddhism in the region was sponsored by the royal family and officials. After Emperor Taiwu unified the north, people continued to migrate to Pingcheng, the social phenomenon of which impacted the Buddhist art in the Dingzhou area. During the Pingcheng period in the Northern Wei Dynasty, gilt bronze Buddhist statues were prevalent in the Dingzhou area, while their themes and styles became diversified. These diverse Buddhist factors came from different regions(such as the Western Regions and Pingcheng), which coexisted in Dingzhou during the Pingcheng period.
