During the War of Resistance Against the Japanese Aggression and at the beginning of the War of Liberation,the Xinhua Daily,as the first newspaper of a national political organ founded by the CPC,carried out arduous and meritorious struggles in the Kuomintang-controlled areas.Comrade Mao Zedong commented that it"serves as a front army of the Party".This glorious newspaper embodies the efforts and wisdom of revolutionary newspaper activists led by Comrade Zhou Enlai,and highlights the"five heights"of the CPC’s news and public opinion work,i.e.,the outstanding political,ideological,cultural,moral and spiritual height.Therefore,it is regarded as a sign of the maturity of China’s proletarian newspaper industry,a milestone in the history of modern newspapers and periodicals.An in-depth study of the CPC’s newspaper-running practice and public opinion struggle is of great practical significance to the development of the CPC’s publicity work under the current situation of great changes unseen in a century.
