The Task of the Times:Building Philosophical and Social Sciences with Chinese Characteristics

构建中国特色哲学社会科学是时代托付给我们的一项重大任务。这项任务意味着,当今中国的学术正面临一个积极的转向,即从长期以来对于外部学术的“学徒状态”中摆脱出来,并获得它的“自我主张”。这一转向又在思想理论上要求从“外在反思”的思维方式中解放出来,从而深入社会-历史的现实之中,特别是深入当今中国的现实之中。只有这样,中国的学术才能坚决地承担起它的思想任务,才能真正成为能思的和批判的学术。从性质上来说,中国特色哲学社会科学乃是获得了“自我主张”的学术,并因而才实际地具有中国特色、中国风格和中国气派。这项时代任务是在当今中国的历史性实践发展到特定的转折点(新的“历史方位”)上被提出来的,因而对于中国哲学社会科学来说,不仅是一项艰巨的学术理论任务,而且是一项由时代所指派的历史使命。

Constructing philosophical and social sciences with Chinese characteristics is a major task entrusted to us by the times.It implies that Chinese scholarship today is facing a positive turn,emerging from its chronical“state of apprenticeship”to external scholarship and acquiring its“self-assertion”.Theoretically,this turn further calls for a liberation from the mode of“external reflection”and penetration into the socio-historical reality,especially that of China today.Only in this way can Chinese scholarship resolutely take up its intellectual task and truly become a thoughtful and critical scholarship.By nature,philosophy and social science with Chinese characteristics is a science that has acquired“self-assertion”and is therefore practically Chinese in character,Chinese in style,and Chinese in manner.This task of the times is proposed at a specific turning point(a new“historical orientation”)in the development of China’s historical practice today,and is thus not only an arduous academic and theoretical task for Chinese philosophy and social science,but also a historical mission assigned by the times.
