We first analyzed the shortcomings of the existing academic journal evaluation systems,and criticize the associated social problems.Then,we elaborated that the original intention of running a periodical is to serve the authors,meet the needs for readers,and make connections between them,and disseminate high-quality scientific and technological achievements extensively and quickly.Meanwhile,we discussed the significance of remembering where we started the periodicals and the roles that an editor should play,which included a service provider,a gatekeeper,an editor craftsman,a researcher,a connoisseur,and a guide.
