How Place Names Define Art

地名在艺术现象中的广泛存在,界定了艺术作品的描绘对象和叙事地点,识别了艺术的流派、样式和风格。地名定义艺术提出了三个问题:艺术在哪里?艺术为什么在那里?艺术在那里会怎样?回答上述问题产生了两方面的意义:一是可以建构一种以地点及其背后的地方和地理景观叙事为核心的艺术解读范式,探讨地理如何成为艺术实践和风格变迁的驱动力。二是当艺术成为重新建构地理认知世界的重要媒介时,在“什么是中国艺术的特色,艺术何以为中国”的远观中,艺术对中国地理世界的认知、把握和想象性重构,是中国艺术理论和实践中不容忽略的视角,在中国艺术学三大体系的讨论中,研究艺术与地理环境之间双向建构关系的艺术地理学不能缺席。

Place names are widely seen in artistic phenomenon. It defines the descriptive subject and narrative place of art works and it identifies the genre, pattern and style of art. There are three questions which are proposed by place name defining art: where is art? Why is art there? What will happen to art there? There are two meanings in the answering of these questions. The first is that the interpretative paradigm can be constructed based on the spot and the place and geological narration behind so as to discuss how geography can act as a driving force for artistic practice and the change of style. The second is that, when art became an important media of re-constructing the geographical understanding of the world, we have to consider these issues: “what are the characteristics of Chinese art? How can an art be Chinese? ”. There are several perspectives that should not be neglected in the theory and practice of Chinese art, such as the artistic understanding, examination and imaginative re-construction of the geographical world of China. In the discussion of the three systems of Chinese art studies, art geography, which studies the two-way construction between art and geography, should not be absent.
