A Snail’s Trail in the Moonlight: Brakhage’s Interview on Experimental Film

2003年初,乔多夫受法国电视台之托,在布拉哈格家中对他进行访谈并制成“肖像短片”《探望斯坦·布拉哈格》。两个月后,布拉哈格去世。吉纳维芙·岳将访谈整理成文字。布拉哈格在52年间创作近400部电影,吉纳维芙称他为“个人电影、由纯粹光影构成的视觉诗以及视觉边界本身”的明证。对于自己的作品是否存在统一主旨这个问题,布拉哈格迟疑了,但他最后唱起一首歌,词曰:“除了爱,宝贝,我什么也给不了你。”

On January, 4-8 2003, Chodorov interviewed Brakhage at his house to make a portrait film titled A Visit to Stan Brakhage under the commission of a French television. Two months later, Brakhage passed away. When transcribing the audio, Genevieve Yue found Brakhage tired, but his speech animated, patient, and smiling. Nearly 400 films in 52 years have made Brakhage “the case for a personal cinema, visual poems of pure light, the reaches of vision itself”, as Yue said. While Brakhage hesitated on whether a theme commanded his oeuvre, he at last sang a lyric: “I can’t give you anything but love, baby”.
