On Power Discipline of Kazuo Ishiguro’s A Pale View of Hills

福柯的现代权力理论可以阐释石黑一雄小说《远山淡影》中的权力书写,揭示小说的主题内涵。《远山淡影》的权利书写主要体现在三个方面:权力通过控制城市的建筑、河流和家屋,对个体和群体进行空间规训;权力也通过“荣誉”话语、夫妻对话、世界语言和新闻媒体话语,对个体进行话语规训;权力还通过控制女性的身体、约束工作中的身体和造成身体的死亡,对个体进行身体规训。小说旨在表明,个体及群体皆受到种种权力压制,需采取行动抵抗其控制。

Foucault’s theory of modern power can illustrate the power writing in Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel A Pale View of Hills and reveal the novel’s theme connotation.A Pale View of Hills’s power writing are pre-sented in three aspects:power conducts space discipline on individuals and groups through various controls of buildings,rivers and houses;power conducts discourse discipline on individuals through“honor”discourse,dialogue between husband and wife,international language and media discourse;power also disciplines the body of individuals by controlling female’s body,constraining the body at work and causing its death.The novel aims to indicate that individuals and groups are oppressed by various powers and need to fight.
