An Analysis of the Newly Discovered Zhang Rongxuan's Notes and Letters

近日广东梅县松口发现一批关于张榕轩的奏牍信札抄件,包含其致各界人士书信142通,修筑潮汕铁路期间与商部官员等往来公函奏牍39通,较为真实地记录了作为侨领、实业家的张榕轩在1902—1907年间的生活断面,显示了其“身处重洋,心怀君国”的爱国情怀,彰显了客家族群认同意识的自觉。

Recently,a batch of copies of Zhang Rongxuan's notes and letters were discovered in Songkou,Meixian County,Guangdong Province,including 142 letters to people from all walks of life,and 39 notes and letters with officials of the Ministry of Commerce during the construction of the Chaoshan railway.The cross-section of Zhang Rongxuan's life from 1902 to 1907,an industrialist,shows his patriotic feelings of“being in the ocean and cherishing the monarchy”,and demonstrates the self-awareness of the Hakka ethnic group's sense of identity.
