Translation of Chinese Classics:From Theory to Practice

本文是对《中籍英译通论》的简介,共分三个部分。一是该书的缘起,是应国外大学开设汉学英语课程的需要,从阅读译文进而创造译文,论述其需要具备的条件和能力;二是该书在理论方面的特色,包括专章讨论什么是中国文化问题,将翻译史作为创建新理论基础,及理论的层次性;三是该书在应用部分的特色,包括将语内翻译能力纳入典籍翻译,翻译教学采用过程实录办法,以及以自译自评代替选文等。

The paper is a three-part introduction to the author’s new book A Comprehensive Course for Rendering Chinese Classics into English.The first part recalls the history how the book came into being.The second part reveals three features of the book theoretically:the inclusion of a special chapter for the discussion of Chinese culture,the siting of translation history as the start for construing a new theory,and the necessity for the stratification in theoretical study.The third part deals with the features of the practicing part of the book concerning intra-translation,translation teaching and translation criticism.
