“The Unpredictable and Strange Career”:On the Detective Image of Liu Bannong's Detective Novels

侦探小说是一个被历史建构出的现代文学类型。新文学闯将刘半农著译的侦探小说兼具本土公案小说与西方侦探小说的双重质素。一是反映了清末民初官场腐败、民众昏懵与西方崇尚科学、民主、人道主义精神的现状差别,二是塑造了一些具备睿智、科学、正义等现代品格的侦探形象。他们有的是重情重义、匡扶正义的本土型侦探(官府捕快);有的是尊重科学实证、善于逻辑推理型的西方侦探;有的是好奇心驱使的业余侦探与令人捧腹的滑稽囧探,这些形象各异的侦探类型无疑为后来现代侦探形象的塑造起了促进作用。

Detective fiction is a modern literary genre constructed by history.The detective novels translated by Liu Bannong,a new literary pioneer,have the dual qualities of local koan novels and Western detective novels.First,it reflects the difference between the corruption of officialdom in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,the dazed people,and the Western advocacy of science,democracy,and humanitarianism.Second,it ceated some detective images with modern characters such as wisdom,science,justice,etc.Some local detectives value love and justice and support justice(official captor);some are Western detectives who respect scientific evidence and are good at logical reasoning;some are amateur detectives driven by curiosity and hilarious funny detectives,these different image types of detectives undoubtedly played a role in promoting the image of modern detectives.
