Proper and accurate translation is the ultimate goal of English-Chinese translation.Since pragmatics has great explanatory power for translation,it gets gradually applied in English-Chinese translation studies.This paper explores the pragmatic theory and its application in English-Chinese translation,and puts forward some translation strategies like following the process of pragmatics in English-Chinese translation,considering the diff erences and balance between English and Chinese,adopting various methods such as equivalent translation,and comprehensively judging translation strategies in diff erent contexts,etc.
