五四时期,吴品今是颇为活跃的青年。其一,他是北京法政学校的学生,创办并主编了《法政学报》。其二,他一度与梁启超、蒋百里保持了较为密切的关系,不仅参与共学社的具体事务,还接受共学社资助赴欧留学,并担任北京《晨报》和上海《时事新报》的驻外记者。其三,他是新文化的鼓吹者,在《晨报副刊》等著名刊物上发表了为数不少的论文、时评及新诗。留学归国后,吴品今奔走权门,托庇交通系之下,此前的人生灿烂光华黯然褪去,终至默默无闻。他的一生——从五四青年变为北洋小吏,展现了五四青年的一种人生走向。

Wu Pinjin is a very active young man during the May Fourth Movement.Firstly,he is a student of Beijing Law and Politics School.He founds and edits the Journal of Law and Politics.Secondly,he once maintains a relatively close relationship with Liang Qichao and Jiang Baili.He not only participates in the specific affairs of the Gongxue Society,but also accepts the support of the Gongxue Society to study in Europe,and serves as a foreign correspondent for Beijing's Morning Post and Shanghai's Shi Shi Xin Bao.Thirdly,he is the advocator of new culture,and has published many papers,commentaries and new poems in famous publications such as the Morning Post's Supplement.After studying abroad and returning to China,Wu Pinjin runs for power and serves the communication department.The glory of his previous life fades away,and finally he goes to obscurity.His life,from a May 4th youth to a Beiyang little official,shows a kind of life trend of the May 4th youth.
