“彤管”小考

The Interpretation of Tongguan(彤管)

《静女》诗“彤管”所指何物,诸家分歧颇多。对“彤管”之解释计有九说,分别为:女史朱笔赤管、乐器、女红针筒、红色管草、辛夷花、玉管、嫩茅芽、紫皮白尖的茅草、红色兰花。九说皆有不足之处。参合阜阳汉简《诗经》篇目,“彤管”或当训作“彤莞”,为初生之香蒲。此种训释不仅合于《静女》对“彤管”的描述,亦与诗歌的整体语境相符。

There are many differences in the meaning of Tongguan(彤管)in the poem Jing Nü(静女).There are nine explanations for the interpretation of Tongguan(彤管),all of which have deficiencies.Tongguan(彤管)should be interpreted as the red Typha orientalis Presl(香蒲).In the process of text writing,guan(管)was incorrectly written as guan(莞).Tongguan(彤管)is the cattail of the newborn.This interpretation not only fits the description of Tongguan(彤管)in Jing Nü(静女),but also fits the overall context of poetry.
