A Study on the System of Officials’Seeking Medical Treatment in the Song Dynasty

In the Song Dynasty,officials’asking for sick leave is called seeking medical treatment,which plays an important role in the life of officials in the Song Dynasty.Officials seek medical treatment because they are really sick,they are forced or they malinger.According to different situations,the Song government formulated different countermeasures.There are differences in the application process for officials with different reasons for seeking medical treatment.There are clear rules for the length of time and wages and emoluments to ensure that the life of officials seeking medical treatment is not greatly affected.After applying for medical treatment,officials are limited in the participation in discussing important matters of the court and their promotion.Therefore,seeking medical treatment has an impact on the official career of officials in the Song Dynasty.While there are defects in this system,it is a flexible and rigorous system full of humanization.
