Scientists’interest in monkeypox may help countries worldwide

Monkeypox virus was isolated from infected experimental monkeys in 1958 at the Statens Serum Institut in Copenhagen,Denmark.The first human case was identified in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.1 The main animal hosts of monkeypox virus are rodents and non-human primates,such as rope squirrels,tree squirrels,Gambian kangaroos,dormice,and monkeys.2–4 Most human cases of monkeypox infection have been reported in the rainforests of central and western Africa.Monkeypox virus is primarily transmitted to humans from wild animals.
