Phenolic resin recycled from semi-coke waste water and municipal sludge was used as briquette binders. The influence of single binder and mixed binder on the compressive strength was discussed, and the characteristics of gas released from briquette combustion were investigated by thermogravimetry and infrared ray(TG-FTIR).The results showed that the proportion of mixed binder was equal to single binder in order to achieve the minimum compressive strength of 400 N of briquette. If 5%CaO was added, the proportion of mixed binder decreased from9.3%to 5.1%.The CaO not only played the role of binder, but also improved the sulfur retention rate of briquette. The pyrolysis of the two briquette coals was divided into three stages:drying dehydration, slow pyrolysis and rapid combustion. With the increase of heating temperature, the absorption peak intensity of released gas gradually increased. In approximate maximum weight loss rate (620℃and 598℃),almost all released gas was CO_(2),and no pollutants such as VOCs,NO_(x) and SO;were found. It was showed that the briquette had the characteristics of clean environmental protection and high calorific value of combustion.
