The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2021 was awarded jointly to Benjamin List and David W.C. MacMillan “for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis”. They had discovered an entirely new concept for catalysis, which enabled the development of drug research and chemical production in the direction of economy and environmental protection. Starting with reviewing the relevant research background and the research process of the two scientists, the importance of breakthrough thinking and maintaining love in scientific research was emphasized.
