This article focuses on T. S. Eliot’s three early literary works, including “Burbank with a Baedeker: Bleistein with a Cigar”, “Lune de Miel” and Sweeney Agonistes, and explores the image of Americans who visit, stay and encamp in the European continent in the three works. By associating the writing context with the poet’s biographical information, this study argues that the description of the image of Americans in the three literary works could be deemed as the shaping of a political metaphor, since it alludes to Eliot’s attention to both the United States’ entry into World War I and the Thomas Woodrow Wilson administration’s post-WWI foreign policies, and suggests the poet’s reflection on the impact of the United States government’s post-WWI foreign policies on the European peace reconstruction.
