The Shadow in the Mirror:Qu Qiubai and His World

作为中共早期革命领袖,瞿秋白身上背负着多种思想的包袱。中国传统儒学精神是他的思想底色,佛家、道家思想也是重要的思想资源,与此同时,外来西方文化不断形成冲击。走向马克思主义者的过程中,瞿秋白深感自身未能完全脱出旧思想的窠臼,身上挥之不去的绅士气,尤其让他惶惑不安。瞿秋白的处境,其实是五四一代知识人在新旧转换中面对的共同问题,所谓肩着黑暗的闸门,放别人一条生路,是他们的生动写照。这样的背景,加之现实政治与生活的机缘巧合,使得瞿秋白在爱的选择、寻找光明的冲动、锚定现实的艰难中,都宁愿以弃绝自我面对,这样的弃绝,最终酿就了瞿秋白的命运。

As an early revolutionary leader of the Communist Party of China,Qu Qiubai was burdened with various ideas,and was especially influenced by Buddhism.In the process of becoming a Marxist,QuQiubai felt deeply that he had failed to completely get rid of the stereotype of old ideas,and the lingering gentlemanly spirit especially made him confused and uneasy.Qu Qiubai’s situation was actually a commonproblem faced by the intellectuals of the May 4th generation in the transformation between the old and thenew.Carrying the dark gate and letting others live were the vivid portrayal of them.This background and the coincidence of real politics created Qu Qiubai’s fate in the end.
