As museum theories are constantly evolving nowadays, more emphasis has been placed upon the role of museums in bridging the present and the future. As a result, the idea of “everything is education” becomes more prevalent among museums, leading to continually enriching and changing forms of educational practices. Aiming at young children audiences, museums worldwide naturally adopt picture books, which emphasizes emotions and values through the combination of visual and verbal narratives, as a new way of interpreting museum culture. Old Objects, Inspiring Stories, the latest picture book series by the Palace Museum, presents how to create museum picture books through major steps of determining core values, selecting right objects, constructing story plots and discussing drawing details. Among them, the idea of creating a picture book that is led by museum educators and centered on “conveying values” is a prerequisite to success. Through the medium of picture books, museums can not only provide audiences with various potential educational opportunities, but also explore new means of education and communication including audio books, stage plays, animations and animated films. Picture books make it possible for museums to convey values that contribute to individual growth and development—the eternal essence of education, thereby deserving more attempts and studies by museum professionals.
