The novels,written by the Nobel Prize winner in literature Abdulrazak Gurnah with empathy and deep concern,are mostly about the multiple effects of colonialism on colonies and colonial people,with a particular focus on the living conditions,identity and racial conflicts in the colonial era. Desertion,Gurnah’s seventh novel,expands on the quadruple desertions of the colony,the female,the sandwiched and the people who experienced foreign diaspora by the colonizers,reflecting the multiple effects and catastrophic consequences of colonialism on the colony and colonial people from the aspects of colonized country and the diasporic. It reveals the multiple cultural,physical and psychological traumas caused by colonialism on the colonized.
