This paper introduces the general layout and the characteristics of diesel engine, air brake system and bogie of the HX5 high-power AC drive freight diesel locomotive, analyzes the typical faults such as the leakage of large oil seal and oil pan in diesel engine, air dryer indicator failure, slow rise of main air reservoir pressure, and puts forward the corresponding emergency handling methods.
