Some Epistemological Issues in the Study of “Sinicization of Religions”

“宗教中国化”研究,现已成为海内外学界所关注的重大课题。若要深入推进此项重大课题,必须加强基础理论建构,探究并破解“宗教中国化”所涉及的诸多认识论难题,如“世界性宗教与宗教中国化”“本土性宗教与宗教中国化”“各宗教传承与宗教中国化”等关系问题。通过深析“世界性”“本土性”“本土化”与“中国化”等相关概念的复杂意蕴,可以充分印证“宗教中国化”是合乎世界宗教史所揭示的生存共相及其发展规律的。

“Sinicization of religions” has become an important research topic in the academic field of religious studies inside and outside China. To make meaningful progress in this important research topic requires deeper theoretical endeavors that can tackle such epistemological challenges as those involved in the relations between world religions, diverse indigenous religions and their respective propagations on the one hand, and Sinicization of religions on the other hand. An in-depth examination of such concepts as “universality”, “indigenousness”, “indigenization” and “Sinicization” can fully demonstrate that “Sinicization of religions” is in accordance with the universal existential situation and the development pattern in the world history of religions.
