Objective:To explore the mediating roles of perceived social support and relative deprivation in the relationship between negative life events and mobile phone addiction among college students. Methods:Investigation was conducted among 389 subjects; They were assessed with adolescent negative life event scale, relative deprivation questionnaire, perceived social support scale, and mobile phone dependency scale for college students. Results:Negative life events, relative deprivation, affect mobile phone addition correlated significantly with each other(r=0.27,0.41,0.29;P<0.01),and all of them were negative correlations with perceived social support(r=-0.23,-0.44,-0.27;P<0.01).The direct effect of negative life event on the mobile phone addiction was statistically significant(β=0.34,P<0.05).The mediating effect of Perceived social support and relative deprivation between negative life event and mobile phone addiction was statistically significant(β=0.03,0.02;P<0.05),and the chain-mediation of perceived social support-relative deprivation was also statistically significant(β=0.01,P<0.05).Conclusion:Intervention strategy for college students who have experienced more negative life events can be conducted by raising the individual’s social support level or reducing the individual’s relative deprivation, which can prevent mobile phone addiction.
