摘要 Dear editor,Hospital accidental falls are serious incidents relating to patient safety. Thus falls are very common among older adults who are cared for in-hospital health care facilities, rehabilitation facilities or acute hospitals. In the world, the death rate of the elderly is one of the most serious health problems of this period due to the increased morbidity and mortality related to the death rate of the aging population. The World Health Organization defines falls as“inadvertently coming to rest on the ground, floor or other lower level, excluding intentional change in position to rest in furniture, wall or other objects”.Fall rates in long-term institutions for older people are high and contribute to hospitalized older people’s physical and mental deterioration.Falls occur commonly and are major factors threatening the independence of older people.Like many geriatric syndromes, falls usually occur when impairment in several areas hampers a person’s compensation capability.More than 80 per cent of falls related to injuries occur in low and middle-income countries, and 60 per cent of these deaths occur in the West Pacific and Southeast Asia regions. The death rate among adults over 60 years of age is the highest in all regions of the world.Falls are the most common cause of accidents, and there are serious consequences such as fear of falling, fractures, independence losses, and even death[1].
