The set of folding screens painted with Maps of the Nine Border Towns of the Ming dynasty stowed at the National Museum of China is the best-preserved set of its kind and is of high cultural and artistic value. The screens’ painting is based on Xu Lun’s original and reflects a full view of the nine border towns along the Great Wall at the end of the Ming dynasty, including some rare geographical information. This paper summarizes the features of the textual notation in relation to the screens with Maps of the Nine Border Towns stowed at the Liaoning Provincial Museum, examines the names of three exemplary rare places on the map, and tentatively compares the life of Guo Quanren, the inscriber of the Second Red Cliff Ode on the reverse of the screen.
