摘要
欧·亨利在短篇小说《忙碌经纪人的浪漫史》中,以幽默而略带荒诞的笔触,极尽讽刺与夸张之能事,通过一桩纽约股票经纪人婚后求婚的生活丑剧揭露了19世纪末美国社会的拜金风气和人心异化。本文从小说文体学的学术视域出发,以韩礼德的系统功能语法为纲分析这篇小说的及物性系统,旨在彰显作者通过遣词造句与谋篇布局达到的人物塑造与主题呈现等文体效果。
In the short story The Romance of a Busy Broker,O.Henry utilized humor,sarcasm and ridicule to portray a New York broker and record one of his anecdotes---a preposterous post-wedding proposal,so as to demonstrate and condemn the money worship and human decay in the American society at the end of the 19^(th) century.From the perspective of the stylistics of fiction,this article sets out to analyze the transitivity system of this short story with Halliday’s systemic functional grammar,in an attempt to discover how O.Henry employs textual resources to achieve such stylistic effects as characterization and thematic revelation.
