认知框架视角下莫言小说文化缺省的英译策略研究--以葛浩文译《天堂蒜薹之歌》为例

A Study on the Translation of Cultural Default in Mo Yan's Novels from the Perspective of Cognitive Frame Theory-A Case Study on Goldbaltt's Translation of The Garlic Ballads

文化缺省是文学作品中的常见现象,也是文学翻译的一大难题。在交际活动中,作者往往会省略双方共有的相关文化背景知识来达到语言经济性原则。莫言小说蕴含着丰富的中国特色文化,其中的文化缺省给译者带来了极大的困难。有鉴于此,本研究从认知框架理论出发,选取莫言小说《天堂蒜薹之歌》及其英译本为研究文本,具体分析译者在处理文化缺省时的认知翻译策略。研究发现,葛浩文在处理文化缺省时分别从相同框架和相异框架两方面进行框架操作,以实现中西方读者在知识体系上的对接,从而更好地促进中国当代文学作品“走出去”。

Cultural default is a common phenomenon in literary works and a difficult problem in literary translation.The author often leaves out the common cultural background knowledge to achieve the language principle of economy.Mo Yan's novels are rich in Chinese cultural characteristics,so the cultural default here may bring great difficulties to the translator.Therefore,from the perspective of the cognitive frame theory,this study takes Mo Yan's novel-The Garlic Ballads and its English translation as examples to illustrare the translator's cognitive translation strategies in dealing with cultural default.The findings indicate that Goldblatt dealt with the cultural default primarily from two perspectives:the same frame and the different frames to achieve the effective integration between Chinese and western readers,thus making the Chinese contemporary literary works“go out”.
