Neil Smith’s uneven development theory is based on Harvey’s historical-geographical materialism and Lefebvre’ s spatial production theory,further explaining the mechanism of spatial scale production under capital logic. By combining spatial analysis with Marx’s criticism of political economy,through the analysis of urban space,the scale of the nation-state and global spatial production mechanism,Smith broke the metaphysical generalization of unbalanced geographical development under capitalist mode of production and reveals the realistic relationship between capital and space production. Among them,the nation-state scale is an important spatial scale in Neil Smith’s uneven development theory.
