British writer Ian McEwan is recognized as the “evergreen tree” in the British literary world. He is famous for his unique narrative themes and unconventional narrative methods, and his short story Reflections of a Kept Ape is a typical unnatural narrative work.The unnatural narrative theory has been widely concerned by Chinese and Western scholars since its inception. The “unnaturalness” in McEwan’s short story Reflections of a Kept Ape can be based on the unnatural narrative theory of German scholar Jan Alber. We can analyze the unnatural narrative factors from three perspectives: the unnatural narrator, the unnatural story world and the interpretation strategies of the unnatural narrative works, in order to enrich the research perspective of McEwan’s works.
