What influences does top management team(TMT) cognition have on firm strategic change and transformation?Do the external environment and internal organizational structure have a moderating effect on this influence?Within the framework of social cognitive theory, the EIOC model is proposed to explain the relationship between TMT optimism and strategic change, and the influences of environmental dynamics and organizational structural inertia on the relationship between TMT optimism and strategic change. The EIOC model is empirically tested using two-way fixed-effects regression models with a sample of listed enterprises in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2014-2018. The results show that TMT optimism has a significant positive effect on strategic changes. Environmental dynamics and organizational structure inertia can weaken the positive relationship between TMT optimism and strategic change.
