The Possibility & Expression of Urban Experience: On Cheng Yongxin’s Novel Writing

有关上海的城市书写在中国现当代文学史的各个重要时期都有代表作品出现,随着时代与文学自身的发展,这一创作传统也面临着诸多考验。程永新对城市文学的发展早有关注,并在自己的作品中一再探索创作的可能性。在其小说中,城市并不自成一个集中书写的对象,但正是城市的存在与变迁,使得人物的困顿与新生、人生的偶然与宿命、时空的转换与纠缠都成为一种独特的经验流淌在文本当中。正是在对这些经验的挖掘与再现中,程永新开辟了一条属于他的城市书写路径。

Although there are representative works about Shanghai in every important period of Chinese modern and contemporary literary history,this urban writing tradition is also facing many challenges.Cheng Yongxin has long been concerned about the development of urban literature,and has repeatedly explored the possibility of creation in his own works.In his novels,the city is not a centralized object of its own writing,but the very existence and change of the city that make the character’ plight and rebirth,the chance and fate of life,the transformation and entanglement of time and space all become a unique experience flowing in the text.It is in the excavation and reproduction of these experiences that Cheng Yongxin opens up a path of his own urban writing.
