As an advocate of new biographies, Woolf realized that traditional biographies may be inaccurate or stereotyped when they restore the subject’s life. She broke through the boundaries between biography and fiction and reinterpreted the understanding of truth. In a new biography, the subject can be a great figure in the spirit of the times, or an ordinary man or woman. They can all speak in their new biographies and write about their perplexities. Writing history shouldn’t be just for men. Women can have their own perspective and voice. Woolf’s work reflects on gender inclusiveness, calling on readers to understand and respect gender differences and diversity, and to break the shackles of gender prejudice.
