Adding antibiotic growth promoters to poultry feed or drinking water can improve poultry production performance,enhance body immunity and reduce disease occurrence.However,due to the emergence of antibiotic resistance,the use of antibiotic growth promoters in animal nutrition is prohibited.In addition,consumers tend to buy livestock and poultry products that without antibiotics.Therefore,there is an urgent need to find effective substitutes for antibiotic growth promoters and methods to treat common poultry diseases.Some spice plants play an important role in improving the taste,aroma and color of human food and the positive impact on human and animal health.The characteristics,chemical components and application in poultry production of spices plant spices,such as Thymus vulgaris,Cichorium intybus,Curcuma longa and Coriandrum sativum were introduced,in order to explore the antibiotic substitution and growth promoting effects of several spice plants,and to provide references for antibiotic substitution in poultry industry.
