Narrative Differences of The Book of the Later Han and The Records of the Three Kingdoms:Taking The Biography of Dong Zhuo as an Example

《三国志》和《后汉书》在叙史上有很多差异。《三国志》简略,《后汉书》丰赡;《三国志》平铺直叙,史料编排井然有序,《后汉书》合理调动史料顺序,将写人、叙事、议论、抒情融为一体;《三国志》理性准确,表达简明扼要,《后汉书》感性唯美,文学色彩浓郁。二书叙史差异与陈寿和范晔的成长环境、史料丰富度、思想、修史目的、时代学术风尚等有关。

There are a lot of narrative differences between The Records of the Three Kingdoms and The Book of the Later Han.The former is of brief,and the latter rich;the former narrates in a dull,flat style and arranges historical data orderly,the latter changes the order of historical data and integrates narration of characters,plots,discussion and emotion expression;the former is reasonable,accurate and concise,the latter is sensible and of rich literary flavor.The reasons lie in Chen Shou and Fan Ye’s different growth environments,historical data they grasped,ideas,purpose of studying histories and academic mode in their times.
