Narrativization and experiential narration are key concepts in cognitive narratology.Narrativization refers to understanding those textual phenomena of seemingly breaking the narrative conventions or those“conflicts or fragments”by means of natural retelling of the story, experiencing or eyewitness narration, and may well indicate readers’cognitive competence to construe and consume literary texts.Experiential narration involves two kinds of narrative modes:the 1 st person and the 3 rd person experiential narrations, which underline readers’emotional experience and cognitive context in their construal process.Through a close text analysis of some sample texts concerning narrativization and experiential narration, this paper illustrates those linguistic expressions, their narrative functions of narrativization and those close relationships between cognitive context and emotional experientiality and cognitive meanings, which is conducive to assessing Joyce’s linguistic and narrative achievements in his stream-of-consciousness works in a cognitive narratological perspective.
