The National Divide in the Colony——On Long Yingzong’s The Courtyard of Lotus Fog

通过梳理《莲雾的庭院》背后复杂的生产脉络,结合文本分析,探讨龙瑛宗如何应用有别于日本殖民当局所规制的“台湾一家”书写策略对抗殖民当局的“皇民化运动”。《莲雾的庭院》中的跨民族友情书写,不乏人性闪光的一面,但绝不是鼓吹“内台融和”的应时之作,“民族亲善”的表象下殖民者对被殖民者的贬斥和蔑视依然有迹可循。作品潜藏着作为同化政策一环的“内台共婚”问题,“内台共婚”背后的种种歧视和不便,正是殖民统治的不公正体制下日本人对台湾人的整体看法。

By combing through the complex production context behind The Courtyard of the Lotus Fog and making a text analysis, this paper explores how Long Yingzong produced a writing strategy which was different from the policy of "Taiwan being part of Japan" imposed on by the Japanese colonial authority in resistance to the "Japanization" of Taiwan Residents. The cross-ethnic friendship writing in the book is not lacking in humanity, but it is by no means a timely work advocating "inner-Taiwan goodwill". Under the appearance of "national goodwill", the derogation and contempt of the colonists for the colonized still cannot be ignored. In the work lurks the issue of "internal-Taiwan co-marriage" as part of the assimilation policy, but the discrimination and inconvenience behind it are precisely the Japanese perception of Taiwan Residents who were under the unjust colonial regime.
