To understand the“holistic”approach to human rights accountability,we need to explain human rights accountability based on the complementary principles of environmental law,climate law,and human rights law.A review of the increasing number of climate-related lawsuits illustrates the evolution of the concept of climate accountability.Based on the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights,climate accountability is both a standard of conduct and a business process with its key features.Businesses should integrate climate accountability into their processes and policies to be fully prepared for possible regulatory and judicial developments,such as the forthcoming EU human rights and climate accountability regulations.
