Feng Youlan’s Research on Dong Zhongshu’s Philosophy

冯友兰在“三史”及《新原道》中,全面而系统地阐释了董仲舒哲学。冯友兰对董仲舒哲学的研究是动态的:在中国哲学史学科的初创期,冯友兰以西方哲学为框架系统地梳理董仲舒哲学,构建起董仲舒哲学的现代形态;在《新原道》和《中国哲学简史》中,冯友兰以“新理学”的视域考察董仲舒哲学,使其“内圣”和“外王”两方面都得以彰显;冯友兰晚年以马克思主义哲学基本理论为诠释框架,对董仲舒哲学作了进一步的阐释。探究冯友兰不同时期对董仲舒哲学的研究,对于深入理解和客观评价董仲舒哲学、把握冯友兰的哲学史思想等都具有重要意义。

Feng Youlan explained Dong Zhongshu’s philosophy comprehensively and systematically in his works “Three Histories”, namely, A History of Chinese Philosophy, A Brief History of Chinese Philosophy and New Edition of the History of Chinese Philosophy, and New Original Tao. His research on Dong Zhongshu’s philosophy is dynamic: in the initial period of the history of Chinese philosophy, Feng Youlan systematically combed Dong Zhongshu’s philosophy in the framework of Western philosophy, and constructed the modern form of Dong Zhongshu’s philosophy;In New Original Tao and A Short History of Chinese Philosophy, he examined Dong Zhongshu’s philosophy from the perspective of “New Neo-Confucianism” and highlighted both “inner sage” and “outer king” in it;In his later years, he made a further interpretation of Dong Zhongshu’s philosophy based on the basic theory of Marxist philosophy.Exploring Feng Youlan’s research on Dong Zhongshu’s philosophy in different periods is of great significance for indepth understanding and objective evaluation of Dong Zhongshu’s philosophy and for grasping Feng Youlan’s thoughts on the history of philosophy.
