保定市古城区出土的“保定曾文正公祠堂碑”记录了曾文正公祠堂的建造过程,记述了直隶总督曾国藩任期正值直隶发展的转折点,以及他在兵、吏、士、民等方面对直隶发展作出的重要贡献。曾国藩及其幕僚李鸿章、李兴锐、吴汝纶等曾在直隶、保定历练,他们治理直隶、引领直隶文化,为直隶政治和文化发展贡献了力量。碑文反映出直隶省会保定群英荟萃、人才辈出,是直隶政治文化中心。

The“Baoding Zeng Wenzheng Ancestral Temple Tablet”unearthed in the ancient city of Baoding recorded the construction process of the ancestral temple, and recorded the turning point of the development of Zhili province during the tenure of Governor Zeng Guofan, as well as the important contributions he made to the development of Zhili province from the aspects of soldiers, officials,scholars and people. Zeng Guofan, Li Hongzhang, Li Xingrui, and Wu Rulun had experienced and grown up in Zhili and Baoding. They either conducted Zhili governance or led Zhili culture, contributing to the political and cultural development of Zhili. The inscription reflects that Baoding, the capital of Zhili province, is the political and cultural center of Zhili province with a large number of talents.
