WU Rongguang’s official career in Fujian

吴荣光,清嘉庆四年(1799)进士,自入仕至道光二十年(1840)休致,在官四十二年,其中三次任官福建,在任期间,吴荣光改善福建的民生,关注福建的文化教育,其《后感遇诗一百韵》“誓以始终心,成此太平治”两句,可概括他履官福建的心态与为政目标。考察吴荣光福建仕履生涯,可发现庭训、师训、圣训对其人品性、言行的塑造作用,亦可对福建地方文史研究稍有助益。

WU Rongguang,a jinshi in the fourth year of Jiaqing(1799),became an official from that year till the 20th year of Daoguang(1840).During his forty-two years as an official,he served as an official in Fujian for three times.During his tenure,he guaranteed and improved Fujian’s politics and people’s livelihood,and paid attention to and attached great importance to Fujian’s culture and academics.Two verses of Wu Rongguang,“I swear to always keep my heart and achieve this peaceful governance”can sum up his mentality and political goals when he assumed office in Fujian.The investigation of WU Rongguang’s official career in Fujian can demonstrate the role of family education,teacher education,and the emperor’s instructions in shaping his character,words and deeds,deepen the research on his life and literature,and it can also be of a little help to the study of local literature and history in Fujian.
